4x4 Colorado Rigs & Tacos
Hosted by 4x4 Colorado - this event took place on a Saturday with it being fully packed with all types of rigs, vendors and of course, tacos. The weather could not have been any better. There were a couple of raffle drawings with the chance to win a 4x4 Colorado Roof Top tent, along with several other goodies. In general, it was perfect time to get out of the house, meet new friends, learn about new products and plan future expeditions.
Majority of the rigs onsite were Toyotas, though the occasional Ford or Lexus caught my eye as well. It was a fun time to meet new folks, talk gear and preparing for the ‘24 season. Winter tends to be a time where a lot of owners repair/modify their rigs since outside conditions tend to be a bit harsh. Who doesn’t want to do a little snow camping and wheelin’? I enjoyed the music played by the 4x4 Colorado tent - mostly country and classic rock.
4x4 Colorado had a big tent/vendor setup to showcase their products, along with a friendly staff willing to talk about any and all related to the 4x4 world. Another photographer caught me taking their photo and a had a fun time with it! How can you not like these folks. It was a family friendly environment, with several dogs making an appearance.
It was neat to see a healthy variety of rigs, from an Eagle to station wagon riding Jeep Grand Cherokee wheels - to the old-school rust bucket Toyota Landcuiser. This rig is just begging for someone to restore it back to its former glory days.
There was a person who had 80 series Land Cruiser that he imported from Japan. Not only was this thing a RHD manual, it was powered by a turbo diesel engine with relatively low mileage. He’s ready to sell this rig though, and move onto the next project. $35k was the asking price the one-of-a-kind rig.
My favorite rig was an immaculate black Lexus GX460 that had all the goodies, but kept a stockish look, which was my favorite part of the vehicle. I am a minimalist by default, so to see any modified rig with a stock look, has my approval. The only thing I would change is the aftermarket wheels. I am not fan of crazy offset with tires sticking so far out it just looks goofy. I prefer stock wheels, but sometimes the don’t provide the clearance or functionality when modifying the suspension - allowing for proper wheel travel while not rubbing any steering components.
